I’m just going to come right out and admit it: I want history to be your child’s favorite subject. I want your child to nag you for “More History Quest!” When a neighbor or grandparent asks your child what they learned this year, I want your child’s face to light up as they gush about Artemisia’s daring naval switcheroo, or perhaps Khutulun, the wrestling princess who won ten thousand horses. Most of all, when your kids are grown and you reflect back on your homeschooling days, I want you to treasure the cozy memories of curling up on the couch and enjoying History Quest together.
This all seems like a tall order, but this is what we aspire to on the History Quest team.
History Quest is all about sparking your child’s imagination through sensory-rich storytelling, not the rote memorization so many of us endured in our own educations. With History Quest, your child will discover fascinating figures, explore faraway civilizations, create hands-on art and cooking projects, demonstrate what they’ve learned, and enrich their understanding by diving into optional extra resources. The end result? A kid who’s passionate about history, who makes connections across cultures and eras, and who’s hungry to learn even more!
Working on History Quest has been one of the greatest joys of my career. Every day, I get to apply my academic experience as a teacher and writer, but oddly enough, I use my past business experience as a researcher and data hound just as much. To write a History Quest chapter, I start by diving deep down into every source I can get my hands on. Letters, speeches, paintings and photographs. Journal articles, lectures, interviews, oral histories. Heading into the drafting process, I’ll usually have already jotted down thousands and thousands of words that I need to distill into a narrative that kids will find appealing and engaging. My goal in each chapter is to strike the right balance of “must-know” historical events and “how did I not know this?” stories. The result is an enjoyable but academically rigorous history curriculum that builds a strong foundation for students who plan to continue studying history during their high school and college years.
History Quest is a fantastic, hands-on, multi-sensory, history program and is a genuine delight and a wonderful way to get kids engaged in their world.
I appreciate that History Quest does a great job of representing a variety of peoples, cultures, and religions throughout the curriculum.
History Quest is so well written. I appreciate how accessible it is without being simplistic. My 7 year-old son loves listening to the audiobook and imaging the scenes. Thanks for the excellent materials!
I’ve never loved history as much as I have using History Quest Ancient Times and now Middle Times with my boys. I really appreciate your global approach and better inclusion of the Eastern world in your history books!
Our History Quest book has arrived! I just finished reading the beginning and I am super happy with my choice to use this book this year. Thank you for providing this valuable resource! It will be a joy for me as an adult and for my kiddos as a read aloud this school year.
History quest is the highlight of our day! Our entire family - parents, twin seven year old boys, and their grandmother are all loving History Quest. It’s awesome!
Your books put a refreshing and up to date perspective on history for children and I am so looking forward to reading them with my three girls!
I love to find a curriculum that I can feel good about offering our families.
