R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey

Read, Explore, Absorb, and Learn science Chemistry

With RSO Chemistry, students observe, speculate, hypothesize, experiment, and conclude through the topics of atoms and molecules, the periodic table, states of matter, acids and bases, and chemical reactions. Students learn by doing through engaging written lessons that are heavily reinforced by hands-on labs and activities.

Wow! I wish I had your chemistry textbook when I was in 5th grade, or any time before taking chem in college. I can remember being confused and working very hard in both lab and lecture. I was one of those students to whom you were referring; I did not have a strong foundation in chemistry prior to higher level courses. That being said, I am so happy to have finally found a chemistry curriculum that makes sense, and that is suited for young students! Most of all, I appreciate your respect for young minds. Kids don’t usually have a framework for this type of complex material, and all to often, textbook authors assume that the random information in their books should easily be understood without even making any REAL connections. Thank you for your dedication to making a superior, thoughtful textbook! I can hardly wait for your Bio- level two book for my daughter who is in seventh grade. – Bron, Homeschool mom in California

Choose a level: Chemistry (level one) - Appropriate for 2nd through 5th grade Chemistry - Level One
RSO Chemistry (level one), written by Blair Lee M.S., is appropriate for 2nd to 5th grade. This comprehensive course covers topics usually reserved for high school chemistry, but in way that youngsters can easily grasp. Topics covered include atoms, molecules, the periodic table, states of matter, acids and bases, and chemical reactions. Students start small, pondering the size and magnitude of atoms and molecules. Then students make their own periodic table and study 18 of the most common elements. They experiment with states of matter and make their own pH scale. Students end big with chemical reactions and exciting combustion labs.
The following is a list of topics your child will learn during the year while completing Chemistry (level one). Each topic is introduced with a lesson story that is read aloud by the parent or instructor. Each lesson is followed by 1 to 5 hands-on activity labs that reinforce the material and introduce science terminology and age-appropriate math. Remember your child will also be having a whole lot of fun. Also included in this scope are laughing, playing, exploring, reading, singing, and begging for more RSO!
